It is basically used in a stomach ache. It is a perfumery raw material. The ajowan essential oil is highly valued in spasmodic, carminative and a good stimulant tonic. Ultimately beneficial for health. It is extracted by the steam distillation process.

Chemical composition:50 % thymol, α-pinene, p-cymene, limonene, and γ-terpinene.
Toxicological Properties:This valued considerably in medicine on account of the presence of thymol. The oil of ajwain is an almost colorless to brownish liquid with characteristic odor and a sharp hot taste. Ajwain is called omam in the southern part of India. Anti-microbial, antispasmodic, antiseptic, carminative, stimulant, germicide and tonic.

Summary:Ajowain Oil, which is an essential oil, distilled from aerial parts (flowers, leaves) of ajowan. The plants are grown in Algeria, however, isothymol (50%) was earlier found to be the dominant constituent before the thymol, p-cymene limonene and ³-terpinene. This essential oil is spelled differently in various parts of India as well as the world.
